the trouble with living in a retirement neighborhood

Today, some time before I was conscious of being awake, I was conscious of a sound.
My building is one of three that backs onto a parking lot. The other two buildings are another apartment and a retirement centre. Our neighbourhood is quiet and the elderly residents of "Aberdeen Gardens" play no small part in ensuring it is so. I have never had anything but respect for everything they do in my community.
But today, I awoke to the sound of a group of six of these esteemed elderly gentlemen congregating in the parking lot thirty feet from my window.
Playing. Bagpipes.
