tolerance
Friday, Jan. 16, 2004 @ 1:50 p.m.

I was really hoping the banner ad "FREE THE SEA MONKEYS" would lead to something other than squirrel x.

And now for something really special:

A gang beat a kid until he died outside the mall where I work. What the hell is a gang doing in Ancaster? Hanging out at the mall? What in the world is going on?

It's zero tolerance. It used to be that thuggin' hooligans who acted out were beaten up. And although arguably archaic (and seemingly hypocritical) this form of social hierarchical justice was effective and efficient. We didn't live in fear, but we knew better than to dress like rappers and shoot our mouths off. We knew our place. There were initiations and there were pantsings to remind us if we forgot.

But parents don't really like to hear about their kids getting into fights or having their pants pulled down at school and teachers don't like to hear about how parents don't like to hear about their kids getting into fights or having their pants pulled down at school...and so they decided that no further violence would be tolerated. Zero tolerance tossed heirarchy in the trash and meant that kids were completely free to dress like thugs and shoot their mouths off without any physical consequences.

Which is a shame. Because they really fucking deserve it.
